Kacie + Daniel initially envisioned a relaxed, boho, Kentucky farm wedding, but shifted gears and hoped for a teeny tiny west coast wedding with their closest family on the coast of California in Big Sur. Because of recent natural disasters, that dream was crushed. I hunted all over the Californian coast to try and find an epic replacement spot, with my favorite being a wedding on a garden rose farm, but after some deliberation, we ended up moving the wedding to the east coast. We started venue hunting for the newly re-envisioned late winter/early spring epic weekend within driving distance from Louisville. After visiting venues in North Carolina and Tennessee (where Kacie and I spent some quality ‘get to know you’ time devouring charcuterie boards and visiting the hotel spa…) we picked RT Lodge for it’s cozy, comfortable, lodgey vibe, and it ended up being the perfect spot for their rainy day wedding of 80 guests. I left Louisville on a snowy Wednesday in late March and headed down to RT Lodge in Maryville, TN for Kacie + Daniel’s wedding. This was one of my first big destination events since becoming a mom and I was so excited to be on location, have my own hotel room bed, and get inspired for what was to come. It didn’t snow in Tennessee, but it rained….oh did it rain.
The rain NEVER stopped. I’ve only ever had a few rain out weddings in the nearly 10 years I’ve been in business and remained hopeful it would stop for the ceremony. It didn’t. We enacted our rain plan and had to do the ceremony inside the tent and it ended up being THE coziest, most beautiful ceremony. I always say we create imperfect perfection and this was the truest example of that.
Creating the design for the wedding along side Kacie was a really fun experience. I loved discovering her boho/elegant/refined/comfortable style during our inspiration session. We used blues, greens, shades of browns and golds, and a pop of coral (which she even represented through her lip color!) and made it feel natural and elegant. We wanted it to feel local through the items we used in the welcome baskets, the foliage in the floral arrangements, and through the food throughout the entire weekend.
The relaxed and refined weekend started off with welcome baskets and flowers in each guest room on the property, welcome drinks, fire pit with s’mores, a Saturday morning hike (during the minimal break from the rain) the cozy rainy day wedding itself, and breakfast/goodbyes in the lodge the next morning.
Huge thanks to my amazing team (Melissa, Amanda, and of course Chris) for coming down to TN for this one!
