The concept of my ‘ideal bride’ is something I think about from time to time. I like to work with people who share the same ideals as me, have a similar design aesthetic and a deep appreciation for beauty and things of character, and people who see the world as God made it. If there were ever a couple who ever fit that description, it would be Brooke & Tony. They envisioned an intimate dinner with their people- no dancing or distractions of a party- they wanted to share a meal, drink amazing wine, and spend their time with those who matter most to them. And, they wanted the experience to be Narnia in June- a woodland wonderland within the walls of The Apiary in Lexington. To add another layer to the story, these two love Christmas- I was even told from the beginning there would likely be spontaneous caroling and there was Christmas music in the background throughout the night! For their wedding exit, their guests grabbed pillar candles off the reception tables and formed an aisle while singing carols for Brooke and Tony to run through. Even though wax was spilled everywhere (so sorry, Apiary staff!) it was such an incredibly magical moment!
The Apiary in Lexington has always been a favorite cater of mine and their new venue is definitely one of my top picks in the whole state. It feels traditional but modern but antique but homey- the design of the space was so thought out, even down to the brass hinges on the massive shutters in the reception space they call the Orangerie. It is breathtakingly beautiful. We knew we wouldn’t have to do much to outfit the space so I opted for farm tables with low tablescapes of dried ferns and moss with branches, pops of blue wildflowery blooms, birds and greenery. We also tied small greenery garlands to the backs of all the chairs to make the room feel enclosed in a forest. With the help of Rachel Fisher’s beautiful calligraphy, we pulled the design together with hand drawn invitations and rolled menus wrapped in greenery.
Brooke & Tony’s wedding was recently featured in the pages of Weddings Unveiled Magazine, on stands in your local grocery or bookstore!
